Thousands of Activists Gathering to #BlockCopCity in Atlanta
ATLANTA, GA — From November 10-13, activists will converge again in Atlanta to defend the South River Forest and stop the construction of Cop City. Under the name “Block Cop City,” activists have toured the continent—from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon, Vancouver to Tijuana—visiting over 80 cities. These tour stops have been activating hundreds of groups to mobilize and converge in Atlanta, Georgia this November for powerful collective action. Despite intense state repression, from the murder of Tortuguita to RICO and domestic terrorism charges, along with the city’s undemocratic challenges to the Stop Cop City referendum, activists must not back down.
The four day mobilization will consist of direct action trainings, democratic spokescouncil meetings, concerts, arts and crafts, communal dinners, and teach-ins. This mobilization will culminate in a mass action to shut down all ongoing construction operations at the Cop City site using strategic nonviolent means on the morning of Monday, November 13.
“We invite all of those whose hearts have been stirred by the Defend the Atlanta Forest/Stop Cop City movement to join us for a powerful collective action as we Block Cop City,” said Block Cop City spokesperson Sam Beard. “There are many ways for folks to participate over the weekend and also during Monday’s Mass Action,” continued Beard. “All roles are equally important, as we are all climbing this mountain together. Gather your crew, and join us as we bend the course of history.”
We encourage all news organizations to join us on November 13 in the South River Forest for what will be a historic day in the continuation of our city’s rich legacy of nonviolent direct action.
