Stop Cop City Movement Holds Protest Demanding Home Depot Divest
ATLANTA, GA — On Thursday, June 29, concerned citizens and supporters of the Defend the Atlanta Forest and Stop Cop City movements will be holding a protest at the 650 Ponce de Leon Ave, Atlanta Home Depot from 5-7 p.m., opposing Home Depot’s funding of the Atlanta Police Foundation, the shady corrosive organization behind the construction of Cop City.
We will be urging an immediate boycott of Home Depot’s 2,300 stores across the country, Canada and Mexico, in solidarity with the Stop Cop City movement until the company ceases all funding and cuts all ties to the Atlanta Police Foundation and moves to help protect and restore the Weelaunee Forest.
Vice President of Technology Daniel Grider currently represents Home Depot on the Atlanta Police Foundation Board of Trustees and serves on the Home Depot Foundation Board. We demand that he steps down and that Home Depot cuts all other ties, financial and otherwise, to the Atlanta Police Foundation. Police foundations across the country are used as vehicles for corporate money to undermine democracy and force through unpopular projects like Cop City. In addition to corrupting our democracy, the funding directly increases police militarization and has turned Atlanta into the most surveilled city in the country.
We ask all Stop Cop City supporters to vote with their dollar and join our boycott of Home Depot until our demands our met and Cop City and the corruption of Atlanta government by the Atlanta Police Foundation come to an end.
