Atlanta Police Foundation Begins Clear-Cutting the Weelaunee Forest
ATLANTA, GA — After 11 months and 28 days of delay, the Atlanta Police Foundation (APF) has begun clear-cutting the Weelaunee Forest for the widely opposed Cop City compound. The APF is rushing the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest as opposition continues to rapidly grow, hoping it would stifle the movement to defend the Weelaunee Forest and #StopCopCity. Despite a Land Disturbance Permit Appeal being heard by the Dekalb Zoning Board of Appeals on April 12, the APF is moving forward despite a looming environmental catastrophe for the Intrenchment Creek and South/Weelaunee River.
The people of Atlanta and Dekalb County have been very clear: We do not want Cop City in any form! We want the Weelaunee Forest to remain a forest, not be turned into a military police compound. This facility poses a threat to our communities. We will be gathering today at City Hall (5563 Trinity Ave SW) at 5 p.m. to protest the destruction of the Weelaunee Forest and to call on all Cop City contractors to sever ties with the APF.
